It's never been easy to coach my 3 years old to read nor write, as she is a highly egoistic child! Despite we read to her a lot and she enjoyed listening to the books we recited and explained, she can't read... not even a single word. However she is gifted with incredible memory, to be precise she has amazingly good selective memory. She can memorized the most difficult(for me and papa)books' titles, storyline and content, and even chanting a Buddhist mantra that would take an adult ages to memorize it!
I have tried with flashing word cards( when she was much younger), phonics, and even words game that sort of like playing scrambles, yet still she has problem to identity which direction should a word start!! For instance, 'DOG'... she will arrange it as ' GOD' (slapped forehead)!
This post is actually to record an incident that happened this Sunday, when we were in Popular IOI mall. She took a paper back book and pestered me to buy for her, I looked at the price, it's RM9.90?!!(for such a thin paper back book) I didn't want to upset her with a stern 'No', thus I tried to reject her with a more indirect trick. I told her if she got to read the title of the book, then I'll buy her that book(of course in my mind I actually thought she can't never get it right) else she has to put it back from where she got it from!
To my surprise, She pointed at the title words by words and pronounced, "Dora's Picnic!" She got it all right, I know she might have tricked me with her intelligent as the front page showed a picture of Dora was having a picnic, but nevertheless it's a good reading attempt! Well done my lovely girl!

Book Review: On This Day In Christian History!
0 Analysis Experimented by Alice Law at 12/24/2010 10:00:00 AMThis book is received from Thomas Nelson Publisher as part of their booksneeze blogger program. The review is 100% opinion of my own.
I received this book last week on the rainy day, the postman was drenched in rain when he handed me the book... sort of like transpiring the content of this "On this day in Christian history", which has written by pastor, Robert J.Morgan.
I love History during my school days, and couldn't agree more with Aleksandr's saying in the preface, " If we don't know our own history, we will simply have to endure all the same mistakes, sacrifices, and absurdities all over again."
However, my mood instantly down after I have gone through a few stories in this book. Most Christian revolution heroes and saints were ended up in misfortune and disastrous, they were reprimanded, tortured and harassed inhumanly before they died. The stories were heart wrenching yet poignant, no matter how awful and drastic the condition and environment were, none of the heroes nor saints had given up preaching and inspiring their believers and nation.
Overall, it's a great Christianity History story book but definitely not for the faint hearted!
I enjoyed reading the meaningful quotes and proverbs, which finely printed at the bottom of each inspiring story!

I didn't aspect X(14 months 3 weeks) will have tremendous improvement in speech. Today, after prompted by FIL, again he blurted words like, "ice cream, rubber band, ball ball, dog dog"! Wow... I reckon pretty soon he will be as bubbly and chirpy as his sister does!(smirk)
He obviously has advantage in speech since I read to him a lot. On top of that, he also has a talkative sister to tag around and most important he is a very energetic and active boy, which he trains his lungs from time to time and benefited him to have better speech development!
Yesterday evening, X(14 months 3 weeks) took out a "Health Today" magazine and handed it to FIL. FIL looked down, pointed to the magazine with US president on the cover and asked him, "Who is this?" before he say anything, FIL said "Obama!"
In a split second, FIL was amazed when X giggled happily and repeated after him, "Obama~!" loud and clear! I was astonished too to hear what he had recited! FIL then prompted him to speak again, he uttered another soundly "obama". FIl got over excited and kept badgering him to repeat more, but then he failed to say it.... instead of a clear and loud "Obama", he uttered, "O dada" ...
However, this morning when I showed him the magazine again, without prompting, he pointed at the cover and happily exclaimed, "Obama"! Hey, this reminds us that kids learn better in a spontaneously pace, don't they?!(wink)

Sunday morning, right before we off for the Mickey Mouse Road Rally Exhibition, the commotion happened!
Before we packed and get the kids into the car, I noticed J didn't put on her socks but since she didn't make a fuss that time I ignore it. However right after papa locked the house door and grill, she started to look for her socks(slapped forehead). We didn't succumb to her request, but emphasized that she should tell us earlier before the door is locked and the alarm is armed. Then she started to throw tantrum, continuosly storming the back of the front seat(as she sat at the back).
I ignored her and went to open the front gates and waited for TK to reverse the car. When I got back into the car, TK gave me a grumpy look and swore angrily, " She SPOILT my day!" I turned my head to the back( I sat at by the driver seat) and found Juan Juan was pised off, with trails of tears in her eyes... apparently, she got 'bamboo' from her father again, sigh~! Luckily when she reached MIL's house, they have a spare socks for her to call her fretfulness a stop!
But still, J was rather 'down' that morning until she had a joyful trip in the PETROSAINS. When we asked her whether she wants to come again next time, she shoke her head and replied, " Don't want, next time I want to go to another new Science Centre!" we burst into laughter right away!
Nowadays, I have no longer got my nerves on when my kids fuss or whine. Whenever they repeat the 'despicable attitude', I'll just remind them, " This doesn't work on me anymore..." then they will keep their mouth shut... most of the time! (smile)

All these while although I have sensed that she is gifted, but I never thought she is a VPL! I used to play jokes with family and relatives, telling them that J might not do well in her study, as she would encounter the same problem as Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison had at school! Now touch wood, my words are probably came true... no wonder I found it's hard to coach J with her study and homework, she just couldn't accomodate with those serious syllabus and proper teaching, which she learns complex concepts easily and struggles with easy skills! Sigh~!
Great! Now I have to really crack my head over how to guide her through her future study...

Today J was down with a horrible cough, instead of sending her to Montessori, I brought her to playgrounds. Morning and evening, I brought her to our neighbourhood playground while in the afternoon I brought both J and X to Giant's Playland.
The incident happened in the evening, when X engrossed into picking up dried leaves and junks on the field. There was once he picked up a tiny winy circular dried leaf and intended to put it into his mouth, I hurriedly warned him, " Your hands are dirty, don't put it into your mouth!!!" he looked up and stared at me, then he wobbly walked to a nearest swing. He placed the dried leaf on the seat of the swing then lowered his body... Alas~!! He was trying to bite the leaf into his mouth without using his hand!!! OMG! I shouted at him and he got statled before he managed to get the tiny winy piece of leaf into his mouth...
At one point, I think he is not only able to comprehend what I said but also have a little intelligent to get what he wants... in another way!

This afternoon after J woke up from her nap, we had a decent chat. She told me the terrible incident she experienced yesterday evening, when TK caned and threatened her after she chucked a pillow on his laptop, below was what J recited to me...
"Yesterday mama got angry with papa and scolded him, 'THAT ENOUGH'! Mama said. Papa got angry with Ji Be De and said 'SHE IS NOT YOUR DAUGHTER', Ji Be De was angry too! Ah Gong was yelling and Ah Po was sad... I must say sorry to papa..."
After listened to how she feel, I gently stroked her hair and didn't know what else I could tell her beside my usual quote, "Papa loves you, just he doesn't know how to talk to you!" before I gave her a hug and she hugged back tightly.

These few days I had a terrible backache, it was an previous injured site at the right lower back. This evenig I felt the aching and discomfort again, I lied down on the couch while leaving X and J playing freely in the living room.
After a short while, J(3 years old) approached me and wanted me to trace dotted line with ehr, I refused by telling her that I was experiencing backache. She replied, "Mama turned around..." her little hands hold my body and tried to guide it to another side, with my back facing to her. She continued, " I'll rub your back..." while her palm started to stroke in circular motion on my injured site, bluntly but warm. I was touched...
Later when I lied back on my back, she blurted, "Mama, tomorrow you must go to see a doctor, so that you can get well soon!" those were the most touching and precious words that I didn't expect to hear from a girl at such a tender age. I gave her a hug before she told me it was raining outside. I sat up and tried to get up from the couch, telling her that I have to collect the clothes. She gently hold my hand and exclaimed, " I'll help you to walk, liked I helped Ah Dou and Po Po!" Oh yes, she is such a gentle girl who always helped my grandmother in law to walk by leading with her hand.

How Good does A One Year Old Understands?!
1 Analysis Experimented by Alice Law at 9/24/2010 10:07:00 AMYesterday evening, TK came back earlier from Gemas so he suggested to have our dinner at MIL's house. It's definitely an ease for me since I didn't need to cook, hurray~!
After dinner at MIL's house, X vigorously poured out all the toys from a basket that FIL had just cleaned up. Therefore without hesitation, I asked X to clean up the toys with a firm voice, he looked back but continued mingled with the scattered toys. FIL chuckled and exclaimed, " I wonder how well does he understand you, he probably wondered what were you saying when he scatters the toys!" Immediately I approach X while holding the basket, again I said firmly, " put the toys into the backet, ONE BY ONE!" my index was pointing at one of the toy. X looked up and started to picked up the toy and placed it into the basket as I ordered, one by one and wihout a split second he managed to clean up the mess.
FIL was stunned then I continued, " If a little kid knows nothing that because we didn't teach them!" FIL nodded and looked at me with a smile.

That afternoon when I passed J(2 years 11 months old) a pack of scrap art, she flipped flopping the packaging and asked, " Mama, do you remember this?" while excitedly pointing to the words that printed on the packaging. I stared intensely on the word printing but has no clue what was that resembled with, until she grinned and told me that it's similiar with the words that printed on her school uniform!
I paused for awhile then walked to the laundry basket and picked her uniform up, a little stunned when I found she was right, the words' font of both her uniform and the packaging were exactly the same! Again she proved to me that she has outstanding memory and nevertheless... a very detail and observant little girl! I really wish she could carry this stunning ability along her life time!

I carried X(10 months 2 weeks olds) in my arm while strolling in the morning breeze, suddently he raised his arm and pointed to the sky... I looked up, the sky was painted with beautiful cumulus clouds that reflected in shades of pink and violet( certainly more beautiful and breath taking than the picture above). Then I overheard he babbled something, sort of like a chain of multi syllable words. I looked at him, he looked back and repeated, "art it this" I was startled... my rusty brain kept processing and trying to pick up something from the vocabulary I've learnt. Gosh~!! It sounds like "What is this" to me!
Without much thoughts, I replied, " those are beautiful clouds." Immediately he hugged a smile on his face and pointed with his arm to another direction, again he uttered, "art it this" I traced his arm and looked up, it's the bamboo plants. I gave back a smile and explained, "It's papa's bamboo!" he smiled back to me happily with excitement and satisfaction.
Since then, whenever we heard X babbled, "art it this" or "thiss", we will respond by telling him the name or story about the object he looks or points(assuming he is asking questions). He looks happy and we were grateful too!

Since X was born, I found the pressure as a SAHM is way too harsh for me... to the extend I feel I'm strangled! I used to work in ICU, somewhere people would consider it's a work place with tremendous pressure... hahaha! SO WRONG! Eventhough with taxing work loads and horrendous atmosphere, the tension in ICU is nothing like I have at home... with 2 little rascals, one is the mischievous, who loves to whine without any apparent reason; and the other is clingy and whimper from time to time! Worst part, the eldest always intimidate the youngest and make him a crying baby that would really spoil my mood!
I'm kind of curious how other SAHM( who has more than a child)manage to handle their children, as from my observation... none of my family member would able to handle either of my child wihout any helper! While I have to babysit them with a bundle of house chores awaiting for me... I always feel guilty when I was forced to leave X in the cot or barricade him when I bathed J, 'wrestled' in the kitchen for meals or trying to clean up the front yard, leaving him cried and screeched! Whenever I have done, I'll be haunted by the sight of his face covered with sweats, mucus and tears whilst streching his arms and begging me to carry him!!
I'm getting impatience, especially with J! The 'terrible 2' in her is choking my breath... except when she has gone to her Montessori or sleeping soundly. For instance yesterday(when she came back from her school), she took her own sweet time dilly dally with a tiny winy burgle I made for her, yet she didn't manage to finish it... nevermind; she grabbed a bundles of rattles and toys into her bedroom during nap time, I have to threatened her before she put it back ... nevermind; she left her cup with Horlick on the TV cabinet( I warned her before), later the drink spilled on X (when he tried to grab it)... nevermind; until when I was busy preparing dinner, she filled water in a ballon then poured it into the washing machine and on the dining chair, whilst X was crying cause I barricade him from the kitchen... my pressure raised beyond my threshold, I grabbed J and kept her in the storage until time for dinner!!
I found weekend becomes so crucial for me... to give my strenous brain and muscles a 'time-out'( My backache is getting worst recently with my trapezius cramped up too)! I really wish to have a day out, just for myself... but how can I enjoy my rest day if I can't stop worrying J and X! I prefer family outing, just the four of us... I told Tk I want to get some books for J this weekend, he sulked miserably, " When am I going to finish painting the house?!" I continued, " Do you know what day is this Sat?" he replied, " You thought I don't know, it's your birthday!" I was rather startled, it's my birthday and I was craving to have some quality time with him and the little sprouts... can't believe that's the best answer I can get from him?!! I'd rather he said he forgot than telling me he knows but he still have to continue with the painting job!(frown)
I really wish someone... would understand and care for me(weep)! MY BODY IS SO TIRED... I just need someone to value and appreciate me... more!

The Serene Moment of My Little Sprouts
2 Analysis Experimented by Alice Law at 6/22/2010 11:18:00 PMI hung the clothes after lunch, then I brought J and X upstair for an afternoon nap. I was exhausted after a taxing day of house chores and yelling at J's mischievous(Phew. I lied down on the mattress hoping to get a good rest, leaving J and X messing around in the room. On and off I would pester J to lie down with me, I didn't force X to take his nap but plan to bring him down to rock in a spring cot after J fall asleep.
However, when I was halfly dozing off... X crawled to me with his head burried into my chest. Obviously he was signing for milk, I held him close to my breast and fed him in my favourite lying position. Moment later, I opened my eyes and found him dozed off while clinging on my chest. I turned to the other side to look for J, she was sleeping soundly right beside me too... I closed my eyes and rested my mind.
When I woke up, I found X was sleeping away fom me. I was thinking of getting out of the room to continue my usual routine(Blogging and blog hopping when they fall asleep), before I was able to step out the room, I got startled when X sat up suddently while rubbing his eyes. He turned around and gradually crawled towards me, I had no choice but lied down with him and continued to nurse him, hoping that he would fall back to sleep in no time. At the mean time, J woke up then she looked around, seeing I was still in the room, she lied down and fell back to her dreamland.
X still suckling whilst keeping his eyes closed, then he broke the suction on his own, rolled and leaned on my left arm. He was asleep with his eyes partly open while his pupils were moving vigorously as he was in REM state. Later I heard J mumbled and she stood up and walked to my side, against she lied down on my right arm... I gently storke her with my hand. They were both sleeping soundly which put off my idea of leaving them in the room for my cold electronic gadget, the computer!
This afternoon, they broke their records for approximately 3 hours of sufficient sleeps, in which J slept from 1300 to 1600 while X till 1630!

This morning when I nimbling a sweet bun while slurping a mug of hot steaming Horlick, X lifted my book("How to Bring Up a Happy Child") from the footrest, he turned to me, hugging a lovely smile and uttered clearly, "BOOK"! I was kind of surprised by him, thus I gave him a bear hug and praised him. He seems to be very happy and kept shaking the book to and fro, as he was signing, " I did it again! I'm such a clever boy!". I gave TK a call( His background sounds was noisy, I assumed he was still in the train)to tell him the good news, our boy's 1st "BOOK"!
Last month when he was 8 months old, he saw I was munching at bread he uttered "BREA"(D). Now when we ask him where is "Ah Po, Ah Gong, Jie Jie, PaPa, Mama and Ah Ma", he will look at the person correctly. Sometimes, I overheard he said "BYE BYE" with his hand shaking to and fro happily... other time when I ask him, "Where is (Fan, playground, dog, cat)?" he will stare at the particular object or animal.
It's really exciting to see my own children grow, specially with spectacular milestones and archievement!(smile)
I know I shouldn't spend too much on parenting magazine, but this month I fail to differ my temptation. I bought myself my all time favourite Singapore magazine Young Parents(RM10) and Malaysia Published Parenthood(RM7.50) from Endah Parade Sri Petaling, while My Child(RM5) at Popular bookstore of Jusco Equine Park.
I couldn't resist the fun and excitement topics about school holiday from Young Parents, neither I can hold back for the Father's Day articles of Parenthood and nevertheless the Montessori way of early childhood education by My Child (weep)! I really don't want to miss either one of the issues... I always remind myself that I'm now a SAHM, and should only allocate my budget for necessity since our only breadwinner is TK. At most, I should only get one magazine for the entire month... I feel guilty of buying 3 for this month, moreover I have bought J her favourite Toy Story 3 for RM15+(with 20% diccount) at Popular bookstore!
I should behave myself, to spend according to priority... sulk!

It was about 2am in the morning, when I heard X whimpered for me. I opened the door, seeing him crawling groggily towards the door. I cuddled him into my arms immediately he stopped whining, I kept whispering to him, " You must be hungry, want 'nen nen'?" he didn't reply but I placed him close to my breast and he start suckling with no fuss.
I stroked his hair whilst he was grabbing my finger, with his eyes barely open he pushed his hand close to my lips and I gave it a kiss. He retreated transiently but later he pushed it close to my lips again, I giggled and gave him another kiss on his hand. It seems he still craving for my love even when he was in a 'semi conscious' state. I continued rubbing his arm, pat his bottom and softly I hummed a song for him. It was a wonderful, serene and sentimental moment, just between both of us!
During the day feeds, he loves to play 'peek a boo' with me when I cuddled him near my chest. He will constantly peep while suckling on my nipple. Whenever I notice him, he will give me a grin and other time he will lightly pat on my breast. When you see how eagerly he latches on me, he will definitely know how much he loves to be nursed. Whenever he is full, he will give me a charming satisfying smile, which I reckon it's the ultimate joy of breastfeeding!

Friday, 21 May
I bought fried rice noodle and 'lontong' for lunch today. Y seems not intrigued by the Malay food at all, she refused to take her lunch again! Whilst I was busy spooning the food feeding myself and X, she kept dilly dally dislodging the playmat, poking the curry gravy( which's packed in a plastic bag), asking for pee and the next second wanted to poop, She constantly finding excuses to spare her from having a proper meal. I warned her if she didn't take her food, I'll go upstair without her and she has to sleep alone, 'downstair'! After the 'threatening', she managed to scoop a piece or two of 'nasi himpit' into her mouth.
However, it didn't take her long to 'slumbering' again. I pestered her to take her food, but she asked me to feed her instead, I fed her with a spoonful then I told her I have other chores to deal with. That time, I had done with feeding X and busy collecting the dried clothing at the frontyard, pathetically she asked for pooping again and I asked her to settle herself. When I stepped into the house, I found she spilled her urine all over the kitchen's doorway. I presumed she did it unintentionally when she tried to lift the potty to the living room. I was a bit sulky when I cleaned the soiled floor, whimpering that I was tired cleaning after her mess. I told her that I was angry with her, before I could continued she bellowed, " after mama died, papa will come to me!" she said that highly likely because I used to tell her that if she stayed stubborn and don't listen to me, I'll probably die before she grows up. After she had done with her 'business', I washed her potty while she was still 'hu ha' around the house showing no intention of taking her lunch. She kept saying 'NO!' when I prompted her to take her lunch.
I had enough with my patience, hence I dragged her into the 'unoccupied room' and closed the door, she cried fretfully while pounding the wooden door. At the mean time, she gagged and begged me to let her out. I continued hanging my other batch of laundry, held my heart tight for punishing my beloved child. At the same time, X got startled with my action and cried like his 'jie jie'. I kept Y in the room(without locking) for a few seconds, then I opened the door, warned her to sit on her chair and take her food. She went to the living room crying heartily while clunching on the floor, refused to take her food. I put her on the chair and asked her to take her food, else I'll put her back in the room. When I came back to her, she was holding a few leaves of vege in her hand whilst most dishes was scattered on the floor. I hold my breath, praised her for taking her food. But eventually, she only ate a quarter of her food and left the rest untouched for 'Collie', our pet dog.

Saturday, 15 May
TK and me brought J and X to our usual mamak restaurant right across the road. After having breaskfast, we pay a visit to the newly open MyDin retail outlet, which located parallel to the mamak restaurant. However this post has nothing to do with MyDin nor the mamak restaurant.
When we came out from MyDin, I noted a water vending machine, which I reckon it's something new for both little sprouts and absolutely another newbie to add in J's vocabulary. Hence I asked her, "What do you think this is?"(pointing to the machine) wihout much hesitation, she told me it's a 'machine'. "What kind of a machine?", TK joined the conversation. She paused and kept her eyes on the gigantic metal box, " It has a door, you can open it!" I added. She open the door and within a minute she uttered, "It's a water machine"!
Frankly, it needs some time for me to digest on how did she figure out the correct answer.

Never Underestimate A Kid nor A "Baby"
0 Analysis Experimented by Alice Law at 5/20/2010 10:46:00 AM
Last weekdays, TK went for a business trip in Haydai. MIL came as usual to acompany me and the sprouts when their father is not around. Since the shop lots were available in the vicinity of our house, we often walk to the mamak restaurant, which located by the opposite road. That morning after we sent J to her Montessori(roughly Wednesday or Thursday), we crossed to the other side to have my favourite roti sardine and MIL has her roti telur for breakfast(with teh tarik ofcourse).
In the restaurant, I intendedly showed X(8months 2weeks)a fork and a spoon. I kept repeated to him, " this is a fork"(showing him by wriggling the fork) and "this is a spoon"(wriggled the spoon). Later I asked him to grab the tableware when I name it, he got it right all the time. I repeated four times with the same sequence(or perhaps more), MIL was amazed and I again busted her myth, which she used to proclaim, "Kids know nothing at this age!".

This morning I hit J again! She woke me up at 0700 and told me she wanted to poop, I was exhausted after staying up late blog hopping last night. I was aggitated thus I asked her to look for the potty on her own, she refused and insisted that "the potty is missing"! She whined without bother X was sleeping soundly, with his head resting on my arm. My 'blood boiled' and involuntary I raised my hand and landed it on her left cheek, she cried and vomitted with milk and phlegm. Seeing she contaminated the matteress while X waking up fretfully, I raised my hands on her again, I pinched her thigh and legs without hesitation.
My mind kept warning me, "Stop! Enough! it's not her fault but yours!! you shouldn't stay up late and now ended up letting your anger on your beloved child!!" seeing Y crying heartily with tears and her face flushing like a tomato, I know I'm guilty again! I cleaned her up, pulled out the matteress and wiped her face dry. She apologised to me, made my heart sank with regrets nad guiltiness! I called TK, asked her to talk to her papa... avoiding her take another glance on my 'ungly bad temperament face'.
Later TK rang me, he told me it's hard to control our temperament infront of Y since she is a miss chievous. He has tried his best not to hit her nor scold her, and it was me that suggested not to land hands on her(in order to bring up a wonderful personality child), I should have be ashamed with myself. Thus I vow, from now on I will never hit my precious sprouts again! If I broke my promise, I'll have to go straight back to work!!!
After put off the phone, I cuddled Y in my arm. I told her if she needed something, she shouldn't depend on others, indeed she should look for it independently. I apologised for hitting her, I told her "hands are not for hitting" and it's definitely my bad this time, she nodded. She told me, "I love mama" I'm sorry my child and I love you too!
